Advances in Design and Control of Power Converters, Motor Drives and Energy Systems

Special Session on Advances in Design and Control of Power Converters, Motor Drives and Energy Systems

Power electronics play an indispensable role in modern life. This technology has been found in lots of applications, from such large scale of renewable energy systems to electrical vehicles (EVs), even small equipment such as light dimmers, laptop adapters, and cellphones, etc. The recent development of high efficiency and high power-density converters in motor drives and energy systems has been attractive due to the emergence of new technologies such as wide-bandgap power electronics devices (SiC/GaN). Furthermore, advanced topologies of power converters, battery chargers and motor drives can help to significantly increase the overall efficiency of EVs or energy systems.

On the other hand, model-based control methods for converters provide an efficient mean to overcome design challenges, i.e. decreasing development time and tackling design complexity; intelligent algorithms are also suitable to control the converters and motor systems. Therefore, the goal of this special session is to discuss and share advanced techniques and studies, consisting of analysis, simulation and experiments, to resolve design and control problems of power converters, motor drives, and energy systems.

Topics of interests include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Topologies and control of power converters and motor drives,
  • Converters and motor drives using wide-bandgap semiconductors,
  • Design, analysis, and assessment of motors,
  • Design and control of quick battery chargers,
  • Magnetic cores for power electronics applications at high frequency,
  • Control and management of renewable energy systems.
